Paul Simon made his Broadway debut with this musical play, the true story of Salvador Agron, a Puerto Rican gang member convicted of murder in the 1950s, who underwent a conversion as a poet in prison.

Infused with poetry from Nobel Laureate Derek Walcott, the play mixes musical styles in the manner of Simon's best work. Unlike anything in the repertoire, this indictment of the American Justice system and paen to mercy flopped on Broadway, but retrospectively enjoys re-evaluation.
