About The Bostonian Society: The Bostonian Society was founded in 1881 to save Boston’s Old State House from demolition. Since that time, the Society has served as the steward and protector of the Old State House and has operated it on behalf of Boston’s citizens as an historic site and a museum of the city’s history. (Built in 1713, the Old State House is Boston’s oldest public building and is widely regarded as one of the most historically significant sites in the nation.) Today, the organization’s mission has grown to include many of the traditional functions of an historical society. These include maintaining a research library on Boston history and an important collection of historical artifacts. The Society also organizes educational activities for students, exhibitions in the Old State House and other venues, and programs for families and the general public, including the city’s historic markers program.

About Ken Burns: Ken Burns has produced and directed a number of outstanding historical documentaries for PBS, including "The Brooklyn Bridge," which was nominated for an Academy Award ®, as well as "The Civil War," "Baseball," "Jazz" and, most recently, "The War," an examination of World War II from the perspective of ordinary Americans. His current project, a 12-hour, six-part film titled "The National Parks: America’s Best Idea," will air on PBS in the fall of 2009.
