Instructors and students alike have come to recognize the power, effectiveness, and transformational benefits of hands-on adjustments, and how they can facilitate release of stored physical and emotional blockages. “Without touch,” Ashtanga Yoga Master Pattabhi Jois has said, “progress in asana can be slow.”

In this special 2-part workshop, offered for the first time in the Bay area, Senior Jivamukti Teacher/Yoga Tree instructor Jill Abelson will share principals and techniques of yoga assists, covering all categories of poses: standing, forward and back bending, twists, and skillfully assisting within Vinyasa flow sequences like Surya Namaskar. Participants will practice hands-on assists throughout the entire workshop. We will cover how to assist from a technical standpoint, as well as what to look for – and WHY – to optimize your students' alignment, ensure their safety, and deepen their experience of Yoga.

Designed for experienced yoga teachers, newer teachers, and teachers-in-training – this engaging two-part workshop will build confidence in your teaching, deepen trust and connection with your students, and take the power of your classes to a whole new level.

Masterful hands-on adjustments are a hallmark of Jivamukti Yoga, whose teachers receive extensive training in both the mechanics of asana as well as the movement of energy and prana. Jill Abelson is renowned for skillful and precise assists, which have touched her many students of vinyasa, ashtanga and Jivamukti yoga on both coasts. Students have called her assists the best they have ever experienced, and a "revelation." She has extensive training in the art of assisting with her Jivamukti teachers Sharon Gannon and David Life, with senior Kripalu master teacher Michael Carroll of the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health, and with Ashtanga Yoga master teacher David Swenson. She teaches Jivamukti Vinyasa and mixed levels Vinyasa flow at Yoga Tree Castro.
