Austin (May 4, 2006) ? Equality Texas and The Equality Texas Foundation are hosting the 11th Annual Pride Texas, including the Pride Festival, the Pride ?Sunrise Brunch?, Family Picnic, and the Pride Women?s Dance. With an average attendance of 12,000, Pride Texas has raised over $1,000,000 to support the elimination of discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity/expression throughout Texas.
Pride Texas commemorates the birth of the movement for equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people as a result of the June 1969 Stonewall riots, which were a response to official harassment of LGBT persons by New York Police.
