Tanya Tagaq is a unique Inuit performer who has taken her love and respect of the ancient musical tradition of throat singing from her native Nunavut and mixed it with a powerful infusion of contemporary styles. She has collaborated with Bjork, Kronos Quartet, and Mike Patton (Faith No More/Mr. Bungle) and was named winner of the Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards “Best Female Artist” of 2008. On August 19, as part of Lincoln Center Out of Doors, Tagaq joins Tony Award-winner Stew and long-time collaborator Heidi Rodewald of Passing Strange renown in deconstructing some of their favorite Broadway show tunes – and performing some of their own. On August 20, she performs solo as part of the Native Sounds Downtown series at the Museum of the American Indian.
