World premiere of SALARYMAN, an evening-length work choreographed by Takehiro Ueyema. This marks TAKE Dance company’s first full-evening production and the company’s 7th NYC season. A native of Tokyo, Ueyama casts a spotlight on Japan’s collectivist business culture. Set to the ambient sounds of metropolis Tokyo, metronomes, and contemporary works by Laurie Anderson, Michael Gordon, and Eve Beglarian, to name a few, SALARYMAN takes audiences through a “day in the life” of over-worked Japanese executives. Through several colorful yet haunting vignettes, the piece blends reality and fantasy - when the SALARYMAN escapes in his/her mind - free to use imagination, free to explore dreams.
