Based on Aboriginal rhythms, and written by John Antill on his visits to Indigenous communities; Corroboree was considered a coming of age when first performed at a concert suite in 1946.

Stravinsky’s monumental primitive work The Rite of Spring celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2013.

With its primeval power and rhythmic force Stravinsky sought to recreate ancient times, a time of immense, untouched landscape. Inspired by folksong with roots in pagan ritual and harnessing the symphony orchestra, the symbol of high society and culture, distilled to its most carnal and earthy level. Considered a milestone in the history of ballet, its raw edginess and exhilarating rhythms make it one of the most recognised and loved works of Stravinsky.
