Union Square, San Francisco- April 1, 2011- Sandra Lee Gallery is pleased to announce 'Symphonic Nature', our upcoming solo exhibition of works by artist Chiyomi Taneike Longo, on view at the gallery May 3-31, 2011. All are welcome to join us for an opening reception on Thursday May 5th from 5:00-7:30pm.
The work of Chiyomi Taneike Longo is a complacent balance of traditional Japanese simplicity and the complexity of Western abstraction, resonant of her duality as both a Japanese and American artist. Each of her works is a symphonic composition, making use of elemental shapes, patterns and techniques to maintain a sense of formal continuity via structure and emotion. Using her mastery of chiaroscuro, light is emitted from obscure spaces and withdraws itself back into darkness. Through this interaction, negative space becomes positive form which allows the viewer to engage through oscillation in and out the space. Longo's paintings are living canvases, breathing the energy of nature and life.
Longo is an artist whose work is constantly blossoming and becoming more complex, more honest. Despite her long and illustrious career, the personality of this San Francisco Art Institute Alumni remains dignified and reserved.
