Matan Friedman, Senior Associate, Bessemer Venture Partners
Matan Friedman, a senior associate in the Menlo Park, Calif. office, joined Bessemer in 2008 to focus on the clean-tech sector.

At Bessemer, he has been closely involved with the firm’s investments in energy-management firm CPower (acquired by Constellation Energy) and Xtreme Power, which makes energy-storage and power-management systems. He was also involved in the company’s investment in Pinnacle Engines, formerly known as Cleeves Engines.

Most recently, Matan was manager of strategy and business development for Ze-Gen, an early-stage, Boston-based developer of advanced waste-to-energy technology. While in Boston, Matan also engaged in consulting projects for early-stage startups in the recycling and water-purification sectors. Previously, he was a business analyst with McKinsey and Co.’s Tel Aviv office, where he consulted on productivity improvement, business development, strategy and corporate finance.

Earlier in his career, Matan held a series of roles in the intelligence branch of the Israeli Defense Force, attaining the rank of Lieutenant. During this time, as he worked on R&D-related projects, his interest in energy and efficiency began.

Matan holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a B.S. in industrial engineering from Tel Aviv University.
