With startups requiring a fraction of what they used to because today's platforms offer so much more as a starting point, and a sizable number of VC firms unable to raise new funds, it feels like we are now witnessing the conclusion of a "10 year experiment". One where money invested in venture funds had exploded and fund sizes had more than tripled. Is it co-incidence that VC performance has fallen off a cliff during this time period, causing traditional Limited Partners to be leery of re-upping to the current Venture Capital model?

So if startups no longer need the $10MMs they used to in the past, where are they now going for venture capital? And if LPs are less than thrilled with the 2 ½% Management Fee plus 20% carry model, who IS still interested in VC as an investment class, and what does this mean for the established VC industry, and for entrepreneurs seeking venture funding for their startups?
