Canaan Partners
Canaan Partners does not just invest money in a company. We invest our time, experience, intimate knowledge, wide connections and team approach in every venture we take on. Our goal is to create lasting partnerships with entrepreneurs and management teams who have the same drive to succeed as we do.

We offer our portfolio companies a variety of support, including: assistance in the development and review of company strategies, assistance with the recruitment of key senior management, assistance in the structuring and negotiating of strategic alliances, providing access to Canaan's network of portfolio companies, limited partners and contacts within the business and financial communities, and providing national support through Canaan's offices on both coasts and across the globe.

Canaan is committed long after the initial investment and we work hard to help companies grow over time. Over the years, Canaan has invested in more than 225 companies, many of them going on to become leaders in their respective industries.

Our investment capabilities range from $4.0 million to $20 million, and we have the ability and the team to invest in any stage of development, from seed financings to late stage investments.

Canaan Partners has created a set of guidelines that we use to consider an investment opportunity. To determine whether an investment fits within these guidelines, we can review a written business plan or open a conversation with one of Canaan's investment professionals.

Beyond that initial step, Canaan might request a meeting with company management for a more in depth discussion of their plans. From this, we would seek a thorough understanding of:

> Products or services and underlying competitive strengths
> Target markets and distribution channels
> Management backgrounds and capabilities
> Projected capital requirements and financial strategy
> Opportunities where Canaan's efforts may specifically enhance the company's potential success.

The due diligence process will generally take from four to six weeks, but can be significantly shortened if necessary.

When Canaan decides to invest, we will then work with the company's management and advisors to tailor investment terms specific to the transaction. In addition, we have extensive relationships throughout the venture industry and can provide, where appropriate, assistance in assembling an investment syndicate of highly capable investors.

Deepak Kamra
Deepak joined Canaan in 1991 after eleven years of operating responsibility in the telecommunications, computer, and software industries. He previously held positions at ROLM Coporation, and was General Manager of a division of TRW Datacomm International. He received a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Carleton University and an MBA from the Harvard Business School.

Deepak led Canaan's investment in Acme Packet, AllBusiness.com Bharat Matrimony, Concord Communications, DoubleClick, iPrint.com, Latitude Communications, Match.com, PriorityCall Management, Recourse Technologies, SuccessFactors, and SalesLogix.
