Susan Holcomb’s paintings of night skies are extraordinary explorations of the infinite; luminous canvases that not only depict the sublime skies of the American west but also show our attempts to “define the undefinable.” By overlaying her paintings with grids and cosmological maps, Holcomb references the systems by which we have classified the heavens. Her paintings function both as tributes to the limitless beauty of the sky and to those who have sought, through logic, to know our Universe. Susan Holcomb has work in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.
