Sandra Lee Gallery proudly announces Surrender - New Works by Jeffrey Palladini. In his newest series, Jeffrey aims to contend with the ubiquitous forces that influence our lives. His subjects are confronted by external stimuli such as gravity, time, chemistry and he shows us this encounter. Reflecting the invisible pressures that impact the lives of these figures, Jeffrey creates images that are infused with concealed narratives. We are viewing a captured moment within a fleeting scene. And in true cinematic fashion we are allowed one component at a time of an unfolding story.

Working in oil and charcoal on unprimed wood, Jeffrey tells stories that are both technically and conceptually exposed. The figures convey a sense of intense human emotion, being caught in a moment of fear, lust, pain, or anger. These raw emotions are echoed stylistically in the rough uneven texture of the wood, often breaking through the paint and penetrating its slick colors and shapes. Figures and backgrounds are minimally rendered, reinforcing the importance of mood and sentiment. The raw wood and candid outlines compel the viewer to confront the emotion behind the scenes. Jeffrey's stylized and linear application shows courage, as we are allowed to see how every surface is shaped and built. He relies on clean lines and composition to reach real depths of story and atmosphere, and succeeds with powerful results.
