Jane Hudson (Katharine Hepburn), a jaunty, attractive go it alone middle-aged secretary has finally made it to Venice for her long awaited dream holiday. She soon discovers that going it alone can leave one feeling terribly lonely. All that changes when Jane draws the attention of a handsome antiques-shop owner named Renato de Rossi (Rossano Brazzi).
