During the golden age of the film musical, they arrived in Hollywood by the hundreds — beautiful young women, armed with only their talents and an overwhelming desire to see their faces on a cinema screen.

Tonight we celebrate the few who achieved that goal, from Judy Garland to Julie Andrews. You’ll hear songs including I’m the Greatest Star, Dear Mr. Gable (You Made Me Love You), But the World Goes ‘Round, You’ll Never Know, The Sound of Music, and San Francisco, all painstakingly restored to their original film orchestrations by John Wilson, and sung by Kim Criswell as a tribute to those extraordinary women.
