Requiem Canticles (1965-66)

A devout member of the Orthodox Church, Stravinsky wrote religious music that exudes a commanding spirituality. In the extraordinary vastness of Park Avenue Armory, the Vox Vocal Ensemble and the Gotham City Orchestra, under the direction of George Steel, will offer four brilliant masterpieces. The program juxtaposes Stravinsky’s early sacred tour-de-force Symphony of Psalms with the astringent beauty of his final major work, Requiem Canticles.
