ANNIVERSARY SHOW
CELEBRATING 10 YEARS
DENVER, – Stories on Stage is celebrating its 10th anniversary with a FUNdraising afternoon, featuring Chip Persons, Kathy Brady, Candy Brown and Sam Gregory, at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 3 at Su Teatro @ the Denver Civic Theatre, 721 Santa Fe Drive. Single tickets are $35 ($10 is tax deductible). Tickets are available by calling 303-494-0523 or online atwww.storiesonstage.org. Reception with the cast follows the performance.

For 10 years Stories on Stage has combined literature with theater to bring short stories to life and brought some of America's best actors to the Denver stage. The list of Broadway and film luminaries includes Eliot Gould, Robert Gossett, GW Bailey, Ed Asner, Bill Pullman, Edward Herrmann, John Rubinstein, Deanna Dunagan, Tovah Feldshuh, Malachy McCourt, Tony Plana, Jamie Horton, Kathy Chalfant, Kathy Brady and Annette Helde.

Eliot Gould tells us, “Stories on Stage is very worthwhile and a splendid opportunity for the audience and reader to share the written word and experience it simultaneously.”

Long time Denver Center actor/director Jamie Horton says, “Stories on Stage is one of the most wonderful additions to the Denver theater scene. It's the privilege of just sitting in the dark and listening to actors including Candy Brown and Kathy Brady and Robert Gossett tell stories.”

Stories on Stage has a history of working with local theatre companies and charities producing shows about issues important to our community, including slavery in America, mental health, homelessness, and addiction.

The West Texas Sprouting of Loman Happenstance by Matt Clark, read by Chip Persons

Matt Clark, was a prolific short story writer and also the author of the novel, Hook Man Speaks. Fascinated by tall tales and urban legends, Matt was in the process of inventing a very new kind of Southwest magical realism, part Mark Twain, part Gabriel Garcia Marquez. His most successful story was "The West Texas Sprouting of Loman Happenstance," which was optioned for film and is still in development.

Chip Persons New York stage appearances include Švejk, Andorra, title role in Richard III, Godard: Distant & Right, The Song of Seven Cities, Foodstable, Hamlet, Cold. In Colorado he performed the title role in Richard III at the Colorado Shakespeare Festivaland earned a Denver Post Ovation Award Nomination for Best Actor for that role. Film & Television credits include Law & Order, Psych (Discovery Channel), Return toParadise Lost.

The Queen of Mold by Ruth Reichl, read by Kathleen Brady



Ruth Reichl is a writer and editor who was the Editor in Chief of Gourmet Magazine for ten years until its closing in 2009. Before that she was the restaurant critic of the The New York Times, (1993-1999), and both the restaurant critic and food editor of the Los Angeles Times (1984-1993). As co-owner and cook of the collective restaurant The Swallow from 1974 to 1977, she played a part in the culinary revolution that took place in Berkeley, California.


Kathleen Brady: This award winning actress has performed at the Denver Center Theater Company for 23 seasons. Some of her favorite credits include Trip to Bountiful, Bernice/Butterfly, The Beauty Queen of Leenane, and A Christmas Carol. Ms. Brady was the 2009 Denver Post Ovation Award recipient as Theater Person of the Year.



The Fix by Percival Everett, read by Candy Brown

Percival Everett is the author of seventeen novels, three collections of short fiction, and two volumes of poetry. Among his novels are I Am Not Sidney Poitier (2009). He is the recipient of the PEN Center USA Award for Fiction and the Academy Award from an American Academy of Arts and Letters. His stories have been included in the Pushcart Prize Anthology and Best American Short Stories.He teaches fiction writing and critical theory and is currently Distinguished Professor of English at the University of Southern California.
Candy Brown, a longtime actor with Denver Center Theatre Company, was performing on Broadway in Pippin in 1974 when Michael Bennett convened 18 dancers at midnight in a New York gym. What happened that night - and into the next morning - became one of the longest-running, most beloved musicals ever – A Chorus Line.” Lisa Bornstein, RMN. Ms. Brown performed with Gwen Verdon in Chicago and Cab Caloway in Hello Dolly. She was seen in the 2001 blockbuster film Ali and has appeared in Six Feet Under, CSI: Miami, NYPD Blue and Chicago Hope.



The Cat That Went to Trinity by Robertson Davies, read by Sam Gregory

Robertson Davies was a Canadian novelist, playwright, critic, journalist, and professor. He was one of Canada's best-known and most popular authors, and one of its most distinguished "men of letters." As a journalist, his humorous observations about life amused newspaper readers over two decades. His comic plays addressed the plight of the Canadian artist to great effect. His sprawling, intellectually rich novels set a high standard for all Canadian authors who wish to follow him.

Sam Gregory is a Denver Center Theatre Company member. He has performed on stage at the Colorado Shakespeare Festival and regionally with the Seattle Repertory Theatre,Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, Milwaukee Repertory Theatre, Cleveland Play House,San Jose Repertory Theatre and the California Shakespeare Festival. Mr. Gregory has appeared in daytime dramas One Life to Live and As the World Turns.
