Making Merry
Stories on Stage presents Making Merry on Sunday, December 12 in the Seawell Ballroom at the Denver Performing Arts Complex. Show times are 1:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Single tickets are $25 adult, $15 Student, tickets for groups of 10 or more are $20 per person and LoDough (scholarship) tickets are also available. The Return of the Smiling Wimpy Doll by Jean Shepherd, read by Sam Gregory
"Popeye had saved the day again."
Jean Shepherd was an American raconteur, radio and TV personality, writer and actor. He wrote a series of humorous short stories about growing up in northwest Indiana and its steel towns, many of which were first told by him on his programs and then published in Playboy. With a career that spanned decades, Shepherd is best-known to modern audiences for the film A Christmas Story (1983), which he narrated and co-scripted, based on his own semi-autobiographical stories.
Sam Gregory is a Denver Center Theatre Company member. He has performed on stage at the Colorado Shakespeare Festival and regionally with the Seattle Repertory Theatre, Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, Milwaukee Repertory Theatre, Cleveland Play House, San Jose Repertory Theatre and the California Shakespeare Festival. Mr. Gregory has appeared in daytime dramas One Life to Live and As the World Turns.

What do two old retired sea captains know about celebrating Christmas?
Frank R Stockton was an American writer and humorist, best known today for a series of innovative children's fairy tales that were widely popular during the last decades of the 19th century. His most famous work was the short story, “The Lady, or the Tiger?” published in 1882 by Century magazine. This story, with its ambiguous ending, has been adapted into a play, a film version, and addressed by both Robert Browning in a poem and by scholars in the Hindu community.
Randy Moore is now enjoying his 16th season at Denver Center Theatre Company. His credits include: Trip to Bountiful, A Christmas Carol, The Miser, The Winter’s Tale, A Flea in Her Ear. As a 30-year veteran of the Dallas Theater Center acting company Mr. Moore performed as Cyrano, Hamlet, Iago, Sherlock Holmes, and others.
The Demon Foiled by Anne Roiphe, read by Maggie Roswell

Anne Roiphe is best-known as a first-generation feminist, and author of the novel Up The Sandbox, which was filmed as a starring vehicle for Barbra Streisand in 1972. Her work examines the conflict between the desire for family and relationships and that for career and self-determination. Roiphe's seventeen books include Fruitful, a finalist for the National Book Award. She has written for the New York Times, the New York Observer, Vogue, Elle, Redbook and The Guardian.

Paul Rudnick is an American playwright, screenwriter, actor and novelist. His plays include I Hate Hamlet,Jeffrey, The Most Fabulous Story Ever Told, Valhalla and The New Century. Under the pen name Libby Gelman-Waxner, wrote a long-running and popular series of columns for Premiere magazine.
Maggie Roswell’s career includes Broadway: Sills and Company; International Tour: Once Upon a Mattress; Los Angeles: The House of Blue Leaves and the films Lost in America, Pretty in Pink. Roswell is also known as the voice of characters Maude Flanders, Helen Lovejoy, Ms. Hoover & Lu Ann Van Houten on The Simpsons. She received Emmy and Annie Nominations for her singing and acting portrayal of Sharry Bobbins in The Simpsons send-up of Mary Poppins.

Dave Barry is a humor columnist. For 25 years he was a syndicated columnist whose work appeared in more than 500 newspapers in the United States and abroad. In 1988 he won the Pulitzer Prize for Commentary. He has also written a total of 30 books, two of which were used as the basis for the CBS TV sitcom Dave's World.
Prior to moving to Denver Nick Sugar worked in Hong Kong, Los Angeles and New York. Nick serves on the Board of Directors for The Colorado Theater Guild and Town Hall Arts Center. Nick has been honored with several awards including Denver Post Ovation Award, Director of the Year in 2007 and 2008; 2007 Henry Award, Direction (Dog Sees God); 2006 Henry Award, Direction (The Rocky Horror Show).
