Dancing raccoons, a giant lizard goddess, a scheming waterbug and a wise spider...the people of early Northern California tell their story - and the story of our early history....

Z Space's Word for Word is bringing their unique blend of literature and theater to a work for children with "Stories from Sonoma Mountain", based on the writings of acclaimed Native American author Greg Sarris. Sarris was inspired by the folktales of his Pomo and Miwok ancestors, native to the land that is now Sonoma County.

Written especially for children ages 6-11, this lively show features vibrant characters, infectious singing and dancing, and stunning masks all inspired by Pomo / Miwok culture. Kids will be captivated with Word for Word's storytelling, all the while learning about Indian cultures of California and the deep respect for the natural world that they hold sacred.

A video preview is posted at http://bit.ly/PBgc50.

This show is based on Sarris' stories "How Tom Smith Caused the 1906 Earthquake" (originally developed for Word for Word Youth Arts School and Library Tour) and "Waterbug Walks Away with Copeland Creek," from his 16-story cycle How a Mountain Was Made.

"Their brilliant inventiveness in performance, choreography, and staging has created a new artform, and a deeply affecting experience."
