Steven Bach
Leni: The Life and Work of Leni Riefenstahl
In conversation with
Joe Morgenstern, film critic, KCRW 89.9 FM

A lively and incisive look at the compelling and somewhat appalling figure who was Hitler's favorite filmmaker.

Steven Bach is the author of two previous biographies, Marlene Dietrich: Life and Legend and Dazzler: The Life and Times of Moss Hart. He was in charge of worldwide production for United Artists, where he was involved in such films as Raging Bull, Manhattan, The French Lieutenant's Woman, and Heaven's Gate, about which he wrote the bestseller Final Cut. He teaches at Bennington College and Columbia University and divides his time between New England and Europe.

Joe Morgenstern is the film critic of the Wall Street Journal. In the 1960's and 1970's he was Newsweek Magazine's film critic and from 1983 to 1988 he was a columnist for the Los Angeles Herald Examiner. His freelance writing has appeared in publications including the New Yorker, the New York Times Magazine, the Los Angeles Times Magazine, Playboy, GQ and the Columbia Journalism Review. He has also written for television, including The Boy in the Plastic Bubble and several episodes of Law & Order. Mr. Morgenstern is a founding member of the National Society of Film Critics and a member of the New York Film Critics Circle. In 2005, Mr. Morgenstern won The Pulitzer Prize for distinguished criticism, for "his reviews that elucidated the strengths and weaknesses of film with rare insight, authority and wit."
