Sammy D's Bio:
The colorful story of Sammy D begins in Northern Alaska, where he was raised in a cultish religious group and allowed to only listen to contemporary Christian music. As fate would have it, one momentous night in 1992 Sammy was exposed to the synergistic effects of LSD and "rave" music, and a new man was born. He picked up DJing, began collecting dance records of all genres, and eventually got sucked in by the booming yet technical sounds of drum & bass. Adopting the moniker Northernman, by the mid-'90s Sammy was DJing at clubs and raves throughout the West Coast, as well as hosting a successful jungle weekly and working at one of Portland's best dance record shops.

In 2000, Sammy headed south to San Francisco, where he was bitten by the tech-house bug and began spinning odd-ball house and techno under his own name. A year later he started a monthly called Music First, and soon befriended Justin Martin, another fledgling house DJ with a backstory heavily rooted in drum & bass. The two began spinning together regularly, and their talent and injection of fresh energy into the scene was rewarded with a residency at the city's best and longest-running house weekly. The pair soon began producing highly original and refreshingly lighthearted music together, injecting a welcomed goofiness (and plenty of rumbly D&B samples) into a genre clearly needing a swift kick in the arse. From 2004 to 2005, Justin Martin and Sammy D put out several EPs on esteemed labels such as Classic, Buzzin' Fly, and Utensil, as well as the first two releases ever by an upstart label out of SF known as Dirtybird.

As Sammy's unconventional DJ style continued to take definition, he found himself increasingly drawn to the heady minimalist sounds coming from Europe, incorporating ear-catching and occasionally head-scratching tracks into his sets that few other locals could get away with, let alone had the balls to play. In 2005, alongside friend and fellow "weird German shit" enthusiast Greg Bird, Sammy helped found , a monthly party and DJ crew focusing on the emerging new sound of techno. An enormous success from its first event, in the four years since has established a worldwide reputation for quality in both guests and residents. Not one to be limited by a single musical style, Sammy also plays with the Magnificent Seven, a group known for rocking their wildly-popular parties with everything from hip-hop and house to classic rock and 60's soul.

Simply put, Sammy D is a man difficult to pigeonhole, but one who never ceases to amaze his fans and followers through his keen ear and unquenchable thirst for the new and exciting sounds. You never know precisely what you're going to get when he steps up to the decks, and of course that's half the fun. The one thing you can count on, though, is being thoroughly entertained by a true believer who always puts the music first.
