Stanford University Japanese Film Series
Beginning April 13

This year the FSI Japan Fund at Stanford University is hosting its third Japanese Film Series. The theme this year is 1960 and 7 films produced during that year will be shown. 1960 is the year when the Japanese film industry reached its peak in terms of production and was also an interesting time because it marks a passing of the baton from the classical directors of the prewar era to a new generation of postwar directors. And in social terms, it is a year of ferment and change, as Japan emerged from the poverty and diffidence of the so-called "postwar" era into a new period of economic growth and cultural self-confidence.

The series will begin on 4/13, with films screening every Friday evening at 7:30PM in Cubberley Auditorium on the Stanford Campus. All the films are 35mm prints with English subtitles. The event is free and open to the general public.
