With the 26th Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori

Historic Tour, Festal Evensong at Grace Cathedral & Dinner at St. Cyprian's with the Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church to mark milestone of a rich multicultural congregation.

San Francisco, California April 7, 2013: The Most Reverend Katharine Jefferts Schori, Primate & Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church will preach at Evensong at Grace Cathedral and speak at St. Cyprian's on Sunday, April 7th to launch a year of St. Cyprian's celebration of 90 years of worship, service, witness and fellowship in San Francisco.

St. Cyprian's rich history began with the completion of the Panama Canal in 1914, when laborers from the project began moving to San Francisco. Many of these migrants were Anglicans of West Indian origin, and they soon met African American Episcopalians who had also migrated to the City by the Bay. The two groups joined forces to work toward a common goal: their own Episcopal church in San Francisco.

Festivities will begin at 2:30 p.m. at St. Cyprian's with a bus ride back in history and to the Festal Evensong at 4:15 p.m. Originating at St. Cyprian's present home on Turk Street, riders will pass by three prior St. Cyprian's meeting places on Sutter, Fulton and Fell Streets. The tour will end at Grace Cathedral where St. Cyprian's first service was held on April 8, 1923. Evensong, considered one of the most beautiful and prayerful liturgies in the Anglican tradition, will be led by The Very Reverend Dr. Jane Shaw, Dean of the cathedral, and include musical selections from St. Cyprian's tradition by the celebrated Cathedral Choir of Men and Boys.

Following the commemorative Evensong, St. Cyprian's will host a Reception and Dinner at 6:00 p.m. at Turk and Lyon, honoring nonagenarian Lee Dora Rigmaiden, longtime faithful congregant. Food and music will follow.
