Spirit of Mandela Week April 20, 2008

The Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund (Canada) invites all schools across Ontario to celebrate Nelson Mandela’s 90th Birthday through the curriculum-based Spirit of Mandela program from April 21-25, 2008.


Spirit of Mandela week captures the indomitable spirit of one of the greatest leaders of our time. Using the age appropriate resource packages, schools will teach their students about concepts of forgiveness, equity, freedom, social justice, apartheid, leadership, democracy, and Nelson Mandela’s life. The event will be culminated by the Toonie Drive. Canadian children will donate a Toonie to support the children and youth in South Africa affected by disabilities, poverty, HIV and AIDS, and those in need of educational and skills development opportunities.



WHAT YOU NEED TO DO TO GET INVOLVED:

1. Go to www.spiritofmandela.ca.
2. Find your School Board and Register your school to participate.
3. Download all the resource materials online.
4. Check out the Discussion Boards for advice and activities from other schools involved across Ontario.
5. During the week of April 21-25th, join students and teachers across Ontario in raising funds and
participating in the Spirit of Mandela 2008 activities!
6. Send in the money raised to the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund (Canada).
