Trumpet player Lesli Dalaba, the Seattle-based New Yorker known for her renovating contributions to the vocabulary of the instrument, returns to the Bay Area for a musical reunion with Fred Frith (guitar) with Jason Hoopes (bass) and rare duets with trombonist Gail Brand (UK).
In addition to being one of Matthew's Pacific Northwest collaborators, Lesli has been a member of Wayne Horvitz's, Elliott Sharp's and La Monte Young's ensembles. She has recorded with Amy Denio, Zeena Parkins, Carla Kihlstedt, and Ikue Mori, Stuart Dempster and Eric Glick Rieman. Her improvisation with Matthew Sperry, Fred Frith and Gino Robair was the exclusive release of SperryFest 2007 and is available along with other rare Sperry recordings through Limited Sedition Records (www.limitedsedition.com/matthewsperry.html).

Background
Local musicians who worked with bassist Matthew Sperry (1968-2003) are gathering to celebrate the acclaimed musician and composer's life and work with a festival of new music with internationally-recognized guest artists from Seattle and the United Kingdom. Each night of the festival explores a different aspect of Sperry's creative force, highlighting the diversity of his art, the depth of his humor and the persistence of his memory in the work of outstanding musicians in the Bay Area and beyond. The Festival is a benefit for the Matthew Sperry Memorial Fund, which contributes to the support of Lila Sperry, who at age two lost her father when he was killed by an inattentive driver while riding his bicycle to work.
