We are going spear fishing on Santa Cruz Island.

You have seen all the pictures from past events - now it is your turn.
We will depart from SCOA's parking lot around 7AM for the ferry. We will catch the ferry in Ventura and be in our kayaks around 10:30AM. Our first task is orientation with the area, gear and your diving abilities. Once we are comfortable. We will paddle, snorkel and spear fish until the ferry comes to pick us up around 4PM. We will be back in the parking lot by 7:30PM.

The Plan:
We need to depart SCOA's parking lot at 7AM sharp. Please show to go no later than 6:50AM. All the kayaks, paddles, PFDs and lunches will be packed and ready to go.

Dockside, we will work together to unload the trailer and pack the ferry. We aren't done until everybody is done. Typically they have us work together as a boat. It goes really quickly. Your gear will be tagged with your name. It is your responsibility. If you loose it you will own it.

The ferry leaves @ 9AM sharp. We arrive at Scorpion Bay around 10AM. We will unload our gear in the same fashion as loading it - together. The park ranger will give us a short brief on the island and will ask to see your fishing license. Yep - you will need one of them with a salt water ticket. Keep it handy.

Our kayaks will be on the beach. Now is a good time to change into your wetsuit and set up your kayak. With the kayaks ready we will paddle past Scorpion Rock and into a cool little cove.

At the cove, we will have a brief orientation of gear and the lay of the land. We will also use this opportunity to practice snorkeling. Our spot is perfect for beginner and expert alike. The gentle slope provides something for everyone. A short paddle away is deep water and very big fish.
