Spaceholder Festival is an evening-length dance for six performers, exploring the concepts and realities of fat and trash. It excavates the histories that reside in both to create moving artifacts. Like an archaeological dig, the performance reveals autobiographical, evolutionary, and behavioral layers within these histories, exposing cover-ups and bold confessions. Collaborating with sound designer and composer Sxip Shirey, the original score features the aural rhythms of auctioneering, sonic burial and excavation and other found sounds. Ultimately, Spaceholder Festival presents the monstrous fusions of the body and trash: something part-human, part-artifact, part-culture, part-trash, gradually making visible what is deeply hidden in all of us.
