Soulive, young NYC veterans of the soul-jam band scene will take the El Rey Theater stage Thursday, Sept. 17 to kick off their five-date west coast tour. Original members Eric Krasno, Alan Evans, and his brother Neal Evans have successfully redefined their ‘soul’ purpose once again; celebrating their newest release Up Here, off their brand new label, Royal Family Records. Soulive’s latest lineup features original member Sam Kininger on Alto Sax, Ryan Zoidis on Tenor Sax (now under the alias "The Shady Horns") and soul singer Nigel Hall. A night of soul, funk, jazz, no set list, new grooves and always impromptu; this is an event not to be missed.  DJ Mike Relm will open the evening. Doors at 8pm. This is an ALL AGES show. El Rey Theater is located at 5515 Wilshire Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90036. (323) 936-6400. Tickets are $20.00. To purchase tickets through ticketmaster, click this link: http://tiny.cc/I9jFq

ABOUT SOULIVE

Since forming Soulive in 1999, guitarist Eric Krasno, organist Neal Evans and drummer Alan Evans have developed a reputation as one of the most sought after instrumental soul-funk trios around, a hard-touring live act that’s thrown down everywhere from small rock clubs to opening arena shows for the Rolling Stones. This past March marked Soulive’s 10th Anniversary – ten years since the band got together for the first time at a home studio just outside of Woodstock, NY and recorded Get Down. Over the past 10 years, Soulive has covered a lot of ground – musically and literally.
The band has traveled to nearly every corner of the world, touring Ghana, Russia, nearly all of Europe, Brazil, and Japan (nine times!). They’ve been across America on dozens of tours. New Orleans Jazz Fest has become a home away from home. And in their actual home, New York City, they are closing in on their 100th show.

Not many bands can say they’ve recorded with Chaka Khan, Dave Matthews, Talib Kweli and John Scofield. Nor can many bands open for The Rolling Stones on one tour and have Stevie Wonder sit in with them on the next tour. The musical relationships the band has developed, from the aforementioned artists to Derek Trucks, Susan Tedeschi, Robert Randolph, Joshua Redman, Kenny Garrett, Fred Wesley, The Roots, Ivan Neville and so many others, speak volumes about both how versatile these talented musicians are. Jazz, hip-hop, rock, soul, funk, R & B, Blues – musically, there is not much the band hasn’t done. For more information, go to www.soulive.com
