SOMA Artists 2008 Spring Open House and SF Suicide Prevention Benefit and Silent Auction

689 Bryant St at 5th, San Francisco, Ca

The opening reception and silent auction on Friday night (April 18 from 6 PM - 9 PM) will benefit Suicide Prevention. The auction opens with a preview reception and will feature small pieces, with a starting bid of $25. All proceeds will go to Suicide Prevention. Refreshments will be served at the reception.

We will also be open on Saturday and Sunday, April 19 and 20, from 11 AM to 5:00 PM.

Suicide is the 8th leading cause of death among adults and third leading cause of death among youth in the United States. There are twice as many suicides as homicides. San Francisco Suicide Prevention (SFSP) is the oldest volunteer crisis line in the United States. Founded in 1963, the agency now operates eight community services including the Crisis Line, Youth Risk Reduction Program, AIDS/HIV, Nightline, Drug Line, Relapse Line, Linea Apoyo, Grief Program and Community Education Program.

Once a cork factory, then an art school, SOMA Artists Studios occupies the entire second floor of two adjoining buildings. Since artist studios are open to the public generally only twice a year, in the spring and fall, this is a wonderful chance to meet, chat and discuss art in a very relaxed setting. SOMA Artists will be showing and selling work in almost every imaginable media, including painting, photography, drawing, printmaking, ceramics, sculpture, mixed media, video and assemblage. Accessible via SF MUNI and Bart, some local parking but not wheelchair accessible).

Other South of Market studios, within walking range, will also be open this sweekend. They include Garage Gallery, The Clay Studio, 372 Ritch St., 185 Clara St. and Eastside Editions.
