"SMFA Traveling Scholars," on view at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, February 2–March 2, presents current work by the 2006 recipients of the prestigious Traveling Scholarships awarded annually by the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (SMFA). The six prize-winning artists are Bill Durgin, Mathew Clay Freeman, Leslie Hall, Will Pappenheimer, Laurel Sparks, and Elizabeth H. Wallace. This year’s exhibition includes a variety of media—such as photography, installation, video, and painting—and features artists engaged in highly individual and clearly defined discourses.

Since 1899, the SMFA has awarded Traveling Scholarships—travel grants that annually total $80,000 to $100,000—to select Museum School alumni and Fifth Year program students. As the independent juries that award Traveling Scholarships are guided exclusively by the quality of each artist’s submitted work, the resulting exhibition features a variety of traditional and experimental media that reflects the SMFA’s mission to nurture individual development.

The cost for this 18+ exhibitions is $17 for general admission and $15 for students and seniors.
