A Smart ID ? also known as a Smart Card -- is similar to a driver's license but includes an embedded computer chip that stores information on the bearer?s identity. Smart IDs could also potentially store and collect information on user?s financial, medical, criminal, and consumer records. Smart IDs are currently used in private industry and are being considered for use in the proposed National ID system. This public seminar, sponsored by The National Academies? Christine Mirzayan Science and Technology Policy Graduate Fellowship Program, will run from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. in Room 100 of The National Academies? Keck Center, 500 Fifth St., N.W. No report or summary will be produced from this seminar.
