Skeletons in the Closet: A Symposium on Assessing Potential Corporate Donors and Partners

Tim Draimin (Tides Canada) and Tony Pigott (J. Walter Thompson) will begin the session with an introduction to the ENGO-corporate partnerships by exploring such questions as: "Should corporate giving be a priority issue for NGOs?", "Can NGO-corporate partnerships serve social change goals?", "What is the reciprocal nature of a partnership and what do corporate partners gain from their relationship with an NGO?" and "Why are some potential donors a concern?"

Graeme Page (Evergreen), Hadley Archer (WWF) and Alissa Horii (David Suzuki Foundation) will present organizational case studies on what due diligence they do on potential corporate partners.

Ann Jackson (Phillips, Hager & North Investment Management Ltd.) will provide an introduction into the ‘hows’ and ‘ins and outs’ of accepting securities.

Michael Jantzi (Jantzi Research Inc.) will close the session with a module on donor screening covering questions like: "What are the risks of not doing donor screening?" and "Can screening potential donors provide you with a competitive fundraising advantage?" Michael will also share a systematic way of screening donors and provides a framework and checklist that NGOs can use.
