Sir Peter Cook presents... Body, Sound and Ground September 2, 2008

Featuring Dr Rachel Armstrong, Paul Gillieron and Eelco Hooftman

"For the start of its third season, Peter Cook's Store Street chat-show brings together three intriguing personalities on the creative margins of architecture. Experts in their respective fields, Peter Cook will explore commonalities, shared grounds and connections between the senses.

Dr Rachel Armstrong is a medical doctor who eight years ago won an ICA competition for investigating new ways of performing literature. This led to her first novel 'The Gray's Anatomy' described as ‘a bright, cunning, unquestionably original satire of mass media, sex, morality, the body, extra terrestrials and the shape of things to come’. Later, she edited AD Space Architecture and has worked extensively with body artists such as Stellarc.

Paul Gillieron is an acoustician who is also a musician, composer and sound engineer who set up a complex of recording studios, multi-media and dance studios, leased to local community groups on Brixton Hill. He has recently completed work on the Shakespeare Theatre at Stratford-on-Avon, the Royal Festival Hall extension and the Roundhouse.

Eelco Hooftman is a founder of the landscape studio Gross Max. They have worked on the landscaping around many Zaha Hadid buildings and were the winners of the 2006 European Landscape award. They have been described as having ‘a DNA of bio-diversity, surrealist humour and conceptual design policies.’"
