This week enjoy dinner at Banq:

"This former Penny Savings Bank in the South End now trades exclusively in moderately priced, creative French-influenced international fare and Far East–inspired cocktails; an undulating canopy of wooden slats provides visual interest, both over the front lounge and rear dining room, as does a sculptural wine repository in the middle of the space." - Zagat.com

"Located in a former bank building, Banq immediately impresses with a striking interior design that revolves around a blond-wood slatted ceiling that abstractly evokes a giant banyan tree canopy and well-spaced booths of exotic hardwoods. Chef Ranveer Brar starts from a foundation of modern French cuisine and adds accents from all over Asia, including India, Thailand, Vietnam, China and Japan. Diners can choose from a selection of "Asian amusé," tapas-like small plates that are well-suited to the grazing habits of the buzzing crowd in the somewhat cramped bar. Conventional appetizers and entrées meet the more traditional appetites of the dining room patrons. Terrific complimentary Indian flatbreads and legume spreads get things rolling. The chef's flair for bold fusion is displayed in the small plates and appetizers, while Asian touches tend to be subtler in entrées. A couple of desserts are eye-poppingly creative, like the pineapple spring roll with blue cheese ice cream. With well made, reasonably-priced cocktails and a surprisingly affordable, wide-ranging wine list, diners at Banq can enjoy an interesting evening minus the occasion-meal prices that have become almost de rigueur in the swank South End." - Gayot.com
