Silverstein was formed in early 2000 in Ontario, Canada and acquired it's name after the famous children's author by the same name. The band thrived to tear down the boundaries between hardcore, emo and punk and with the addition of guitarist Neil Boshart, after founding guitarist Richard McWalter left the band, a myriad of new influences and ideas came in which is believed to have solidified and enhanced the band's developing trademark sound. The Devil Wears Prada is a Christian metalcore band from Dayton, Ohio.

San Diego's Louis XIV formed with much of the lineup as the rootsy, alt-rocking band Convoy, which issued an album called 'Black Licorice' in 2001. Vocalist/guitarists Jason Hill and Brian Karscig and drummer Mark Maigaard hooked up with bassist Jimmy Armbrust and began fleshing out Louis XIV, whose sound is built on irreverent, oversexed lyrics and songwriting that channels glam, scratchy punk and vintage Rolling Stones.
