Silk Fusion February 16, 2013

 

Deanna's been playing around with Silk Fusion for about 10 years and is eager to show you how much fun you can have with it. Silk Fusion is a fairly new technique, developed in the early 1980s, for making fabric from unspun silk roving. It's a cross between paper making and felting, resulting in a wonderful sheen. This versatile fabric can be shaped before drying or made into sheets to sew and manipulate. For example, it can be "glued" to solid objects like candle holdes or glass ornaments (see photo).

In class, you'll attach silk to glass objects, then take home two sheets of silk fabric to dry and form into your own project.

Materials provided. Wear grubby clothes. Bring plastic bucket or pan to carry your damp sheet home to dry.
