WHAT: SHOUT! Art by Women Veterans. This free art show and reception is to honor women veterans during Military Women History Week.

WHO: The event will feature nearly a dozen women veteran artists. The organizers of the event are expecting nearly 200 guests to attend. Swords to Plowshares, a San Francisco veteran service organization, worked in collaboration with several Bay Area organizations to coordinate the event. The participating organizations include: Veterans Affairs Medical Center of San Francisco, Veterans Affairs Medical Center of Palo Alto, San Francisco LGBT Community Center and the Pathway Home in Yountville.

WHY: Art is a great opportunity for expression and rehabilitation. Women are a growing population in the military, but are still a marginalized one with needs different than their male counterparts. This is a great opportunity to raise awareness about the issues women veterans face and provide more information about resources and services for this under-recognized population. Did you know that women veterans are the fastest growing cohort of the US homeless population?
