With the advent of low-cost equipment and the proliferation of video on the Web through YouTube and similar sites, more people than ever are producing and exhibiting documentaries and other video projects. In this popular course, independent filmmaker Doug Killgore will explore the elements of producing a documentary, from inspiration to the final product. By viewing and discussing clips from a variety of documentaries, participants will gain a better understanding of the process. Serving as cast and crew, the class will then plan and shoot a short documentary in class. Each student will also get extensive hands-on experience using editing software. The resulting work will be distributed on DVDs to all participants.

Six Saturdays, 9:00-11:30 a.m., plus optional visit to micro-cinema, date and time to be announced
Limited enrollment. Registration and fee information on the Rice GSCS Web site.
