Douglass Street Music Collective presents Shades of jazz on noir a film and live music show. The film is a mix of 38 different noir films, from the 1930s to the 1950s, created by Ana Isabel Ordonez. Shades of Jazz on Noir features an archetypal femme fatale, given voice by Yoon Sun Choi. The mostly silent screening will be sultry, treacherous and accompanied by live music improvised by the sextet of Herb Robertson piccolo trumpet, trombone, flute and Angelica Sanchez piano with Ralph Alessi trumpet; Elliot Levin saxophones; David Chevan bass and Ed Ricart guitar . The result is a compelling new piece, with the evocative gritty atmospherics of film noir joined by the energy of new jazz improvisation, which was often lacking in the original noir films
