Join San Francisco IABC on Wednesday, September 5, for the IABC version of "speed networking" -- back by popular demand! This special brand of speed networking combines two concepts: 1) networking with colleagues and 2) honing our professional communications skills.

Participate in up to three facilitated discussions of about 20 minutes each. SF IABC President David Kippen will moderate the session.

Here are the "hot topics" that will be featured at this SF IABC special event:

** Social Networking … Are LinkedIn and Facebook simply the newest ways to find a job, to meet a companion for life, or to finally sell that old exercise equipment you don't use anymore? Discuss how these social networking services work, and find out how to responsibly harness their potential to achieve your marketing goals. Facilitated by Erik Sebellin-Ross, who leads social media activities and does traditional media relations work at San Francisco-based Peppercom Strategic Communications, www.peppercom.com. Erik’s blog, Tech for PR, can be found by visiting http://prtech.wordpress.com.

** Web Analytics … Learn which tools are effective for tracking web statistics, what you need to set up the tracking, and how to read the data to optimize your online marketing initiatives. Discuss what works and what doesn’t! Facilitated by Susan Barnes, vice president at iArchitects, www.iarchitects.com, a web development and marketing consulting firm in Emeryville. Susan also teaches online marketing for San Francisco State University's College of Extended Learning in the Integrated Marketing and Multimedia Studies Programs.

** Technology & Web Design Trends … Get the scoop on how Web 2.0 and content management systems are influencing trends in web design; discuss best practices and what to watch for in corporate intranet and external web site design. Facilitators: Juliana Fuerbringer and Neil Murphy, “top dogs” at Ghostdog Design®, www.ghostdog.com, a Burlingame-based company that creates internet sites for B2Bs, intranet sites for large companies, and eZines (online magazines) for all audiences. (Juliana also co-directs SF IABC’s “Networking Nine” program.)

** Webcasting from the C-Suite … What are the best practices in corporate webcasting? What vehicles do most corporate communications departments use and how do they keep employee communications fresh? Discuss your technological and communications challenges with Greg Terk, manager of enterprise communications programs and organizational capability for Chevron Global Downstream, www.chevron.com, in San Ramon. (Check out “A Conversation about Energy: Peter Robertson Talks with Jim Lehrer,” on the Chevron homepage.)

** Technology and PR Practices … Are you using the latest and greatest public relations vehicles to target your message to the right places? Discuss how new technology has made your job as a public relations or marketing pro both easier and harder. Get the perspective of a top public relations agency from Doug Costle, senior vice president at Fleishman-Hillard in San Francisco, www.fleishman.com, an international public relations, public affairs, and marketing communications firm. Doug will be joined by Tim Hart, principal of Hart Communications, www.hart-communications.com, a boutique public relations agency in San Francisco that takes “small but scrappy” to a whole new level. (Tim also directs SF IABC’s “Talking Business” programs.)

Be sure to come early for relaxed networking. The meeting will get underway promptly at 6:30 p.m. See you there!
