How are these changes affecting the roles of corporate communicators? Our expert panel of communications professionals will address culture and diversity and share their insights and best practices for how to communicate with diverse audiences in fast-changing environments. Participants will also have a chance to “speed encounter” to share their own stories and experiences.

PANEL SPEAKERS

Brad Whitworth, ABC, is senior communication manager for strategic alliances at Cisco. Brad joined Cisco in 2007 and today is responsible for integrated communication for the part of the company that partners with IBM, Microsoft, HP, Nokia and about a dozen other multinational companies. Before Cisco, Brad led communication programs at HP, PeopleSoft and AAA. Brad was chairman of IABC in 1989-90 and was named a Fellow of the association in 1996. His communication work has earned six prestigious IABC Gold Quills.

Cathy Campbell leads the Diversity & Inclusion function at Charles Schwab and oversees the development and implementation of corporate-wide initiatives focusing on leadership engagement, talent development, Employee Resource Group (ERG) and other programs relevant to diverse internal and external communities. Cathy has worked in the human resources field for 18 years in different industries including financial services, banking and software technology in a variety of roles responsible for HR generalist consulting, employee relations, and Affirmative Action compliance.

Peter Taback, Ph.D., is Senior Director of Communications and Marketing at the San Francisco AIDS Foundation, one of the country’s oldest and largest HIV/AIDS organizations, where he is responsible for media relations, electronic and print publications, social marketing, donor communications and messaging for signature fundraising events such as AIDS/LifeCycle. Peter previously served as Communications Director at amfAR where he raised the visibility of biomedical grantmaking and global treatment research, and launched several national public service campaigns.

Paula Nesbitt, Ph.D., ABC, is Principal of Nesbitt Consulting and a visiting associate professor in the department of Sociology at UC Berkeley. Paula’s work is focused on the areas of business ethics, corporate culture and diversity. She also directed the Carl M. Williams Institute for Ethics and Values at the University of Denver and served as organizing coordinator for Colorado’s Corporate Diversity Initiatives Forum, a gathering of businesses committed to sharing their best practices in workplace diversity. Paula is the current Director of Accreditation for SF-IABC.

Paul Matalucci is President of Wordwright Communications Inc., an award-winning San Francisco–based employee communications consulting agency. Wordwright delivers communication solutions for a variety of business needs, including mergers and acquisitions, leadership transitions, reductions in force, and changes in strategic direction. Wordwright’s corporate clients include Amgen, Applied Biosystems, Business Objects, Cisco Systems, Hewlett-Packard, Gilead Sciences and Levi Strauss. Paul will chair the 2009 IABC Gold Quill Awards.

Pauline Young is a Communications Consultant for Wordwright Communications, Inc. with 17 years of communications experience working for start-ups and multinational companies in China, Hong Kong, and the United States. She has worked for Hong Kong’s two largest employers: the Hong Kong Government and the Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC). An award-winning speaker, storyteller, and published author, she is actively engaged in literacy and diversity boards around the Bay Area.
