The 4th Annual Sephardic Music Festival - Channuka 2008

Shemspeed.com presents the 4th annual Sephardic Music Festival in NYC Chanukah 2008 December 21-28. The festival includes various artistic and cultural events throughout Manhattan and Brooklyn.

Please join us for an eclectic mix of performances by Yossi Piamenta, Eden Mi Qedem and Diwon, for an evening of some funky Jewish soul music.

Guitarist Yosi Piamenta is a truly unique musician, and is a beloved fixture of the New York City music scene. Yosi's performances seamlessly deliver a frenetic fusion of Middle Eastern scales, classic rock riffs, and soulful blues. While critics have compared Piamenta's fret magic to the likes of Jimi Hendrix, Jerry Garcia, and Carlos Santana, Yosi's style is truly his own. A listening experience you won't soon forget.

Welcome to the homepage of one of the most exciting and original bands to ever come out of the Middle East. Jerusalem-based 'Eden Mi Qedem -להקת עדן מקדם/عدن من قديم- fuses elements of Middle Eastern and Arabic World Music, Electronica, Pop, and Classic Rock, creating a genre-defying sound that is as modern as it is ancient. The group unabashedly draws inspiration from the Hebrew Bible as well as the Muslim call to prayer and shows the beauty that is possible when Jewish and Arab cultures and faiths work in harmony. The lyrics, which are in Hebrew, Arabic and English, are based on original poetry as well as sacred texts, and wed spiritual themes to highly danceable music.

Diwon (ne Erez Safar) is the founder and director of Shemspeed (largest, most diverse Jewish music site), Modular Mood Records (an independent record label), Hip Hop Sulha, and The Sephardic Music Festival. As the brains behind Modular Moods and many of the hyped parties in and around NYC, Diwon defies musical stereotypes. As a multicultural maestro, he produces a mix of Yemenite and Sephardic music blended with electro hip hop beats. Influenced heavily by his family that migrated from Yemen to Ethiopia and finally settled in Israel, his music reflects the multicultural tapestry that is Israel. His live set brings together textural fusions of live and recorded sound and often are accompanied by singers from various backgrounds. diwon's music, style, and presence get famous US clubs to resemble the craziest festivals abroad. .
