Source traces the flow of Western oil consumption to Azerbaijan, where cows graze on polluted lands and children play in toxic waste dumps. With three quarters of the population living under the poverty line, the country’s government has been making promises that oil will turn Azerbaijan into the Kuwait of the East. But with big oil companies like British Petroleum making huge profits and the government accused of lining their own pockets, little trickles down from the top.

Source questions whether the oil is a blessing or a curse for the ordinary citizens of Azerbaijan.
