Doors will open 5:30, and a light buffet will be served. At 6:00, we will show Pt. 1, "Coolies, Sailors, & Settler: Voyage to the New World", the story of how Asians-Filipinos, Chinese, Asian Indians-first arrived in the Americas, crossing countries and oceans, from the 16th century Manila-Acapulco trade, and the Opium Wars, to the 19th century plantation coolie labor in South America and the Caribbean. At 7:30, we’ll screen Part 2: "Chinese in the Frontier West: An American Story-", the story of Chinese in the Gold Rush California of the 1850s and their ventures into the Frontier West from Oregon to South Dakota. Laboring, reclaiming land and community building while pursuing cases before the U.S. courts for justice and equality, they set legal precedents and left a legacy of civil rights for all Americans.

Don't miss these "breathtakingly beautiful narratives on Asian arrivals in the Americas from an informed world historical perspective." Prof. Dilip Basu, History, UC Santa Cruz
