This Academy Award-nominated documentary is an unforgettable portrait of children living in the red-light district of Calcutta. Zana Briski, a New York-based photographer, gives each of these youngsters a camera and teaches them how to take pictures, causing them to look at their world with new eyes.

Touching and heartfelt, yet devoid of sentimentality, this documentary defies the tourist snapshot of the global underbelly. The children’s photographs reflect not only great talent, but something larger: art as a liberating and empowering force.
