'Songs of the Earth' and 'The Parlour Guide to Exo-Politics'

In a rare trip south of the border, the Scottish Clarinet Quartet (SCQ) presents 'Songs of the Earth' in which composers including Stephen Davismoon, David Fennessy, Sadie Harrison and Anna Meredith collaborated closely with photographer Terry Williams to create an audio visual synthesis sound and image together evoking the wild natural world of Skye. Original music scored for the unusual and dramatic combination of four bass clarinets is performed against large-screen visuals.

The concert will also include SCQ's latest commmission, 'The Parlour Guide to Exo-Politics', a work produced by 'Gameshow Outpatient' and featuriing visuals from film maker and video artist Matt Hulse. 'The Parlour Guide to Exo-Politics' brings together conservatoire-trained classical musicians with the Japanese video game aesthetic of 'Gameshow Outpatient' to create a 'mircro-cultural node'. The work has been made possible through the support of Creative Scotland.

Since the formation of the Scottish Clarinet Quartet in 2002, the commmissioning and performance of contemporary music has been a key part of the group's ethos. They have performed new music in venues all over Scotland, as well as taking their commissions to festivals across the UK and further afield, including the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival and the World Bass Clarinet Convention (Rotterdam).
