Odors can provide animals with valuable information about their habitat. Smell is the sensory key by which animals unlock this silent and invisible world. Insects are excellent models for the study of smell because many of their behaviors are shaped by odor. Focusing on moths, U of U Professor of Biology, Neil Vickers will talk about odor-modulated behavior, odor detection by the nose, and how the brain is organized to recognize and discriminate amongst different odors.
