Unique Smorgasbord of 70 Theater Groups

San Francisco Theater Festival: Sunday, July 22, 2007

Free festival is part of the 2007 Yerba Buena Gardens Festival Summer Series

San Francisco, May. 15, 2007— Shakespeare, hip-hop, improv, folk tales, solo performers, musical, magic, comedy, drama, and a full children’s program…it’s all part of the diverse San Francisco Theater Festival, Sunday, July 22, 2007, 11:00 am—5:00 pm. The theater festival is presented on 10 stages located in downtown San Francisco at the Yerba Buena Gardens, Center for the Arts, Zeum, and Metreon. And It’s FREE! Ten of the festival shows will be featured at various Bay Area venues during the week of July 23-29th.

“This is the only theater festival that showcases a huge variety of live theater in one place on one day. It’s truly a people’s festival— It’s casual, fun, exciting, and it makes theater accessible to everyone,” said producer Bill Schwartz. “In centuries past, theater was a people’s art form and that is exactly what this festival is about. We are returning theater to its roots.”

Bay Area theater companies such as Asian American Theater Co, African American Theater Co., 42nd Street Moon, Magic Theater, BATS Improv, and many many others will participate in the Fourth Annual San Francisco Theater Festival. Many of the performances are family friendly including 12 shows especially for children. Last year’s festival attracted more than 6,500 people.

The festival, a FREE celebration of local theater, consists of short performances, scenes, one-acts, excerpts, and solo performances at three indoor and seven outdoor venues. The 2007 festival is presented in partnership with Yerba Buena Gardens Festival and in association with Artsfest.
