San Francisco Symphony:: Shostakovich March 22, 2006

Part One of our Shostakovich centenary celebration: two weeks in which the great Rostropovich explores music by a composer who was his friend and mentor, a composer whose music tells the history of the 20th century. This concert includes the great Fifth Symphony, a bold composition that ?rehabilitated? Shostakovich after he had earned Stalin?s displeasure.
