San Francisco Symphony: Respighi's Fountains of Rome February 2, 2008

The Scottish Fantasy, Bruch’s other great work for violin and orchestra, was a favorite Heifetz showpiece. Respighi guides us on a Roman tour and Roussel evokes the spirit of myth in music of lush, impressionistic beauty. Ashkenazy, great pianist-turned-conductor, is on the podium.
